Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and ICO
Different websites, apps and printing services expect different image formats. This converter lets you change a photo or graphic without installing software or uploading it to a stranger's server. It accepts common image files, including HEIC photos from some phones, and can produce JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or a 256 × 256 ICO file. You can convert one image or a whole batch, set the quality for lossy formats, and choose what should replace transparent areas when a format does not support transparency.
How to convert an image
- Drag one or more images into the drop zone, or click Select Images and choose them from your device.
- Open the Convert to menu and select JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or ICO.
- For JPG or WebP, move the quality slider. A value around 85–92% is a good balance for most photos.
- If you are converting an image with transparency to JPG or BMP, choose white, black or light gray for the areas that cannot stay transparent.
- Click Convert Images, then download the results individually or save the whole batch as a ZIP file.
Which format should you choose?
- JPG: best for photographs, camera images and email attachments where a small file matters more than transparency.
- PNG: best for logos, screenshots, icons and graphics that need crisp edges or a transparent background.
- WebP: a modern web format that often gives a smaller file than JPG or PNG while keeping good quality.
- BMP: useful for older Windows software and some technical workflows, although the files are usually large.
- ICO: the icon format used by Windows shortcuts and website favicons. This tool creates a 256 × 256 icon.
Practical conversion tips
Keep the original file until you have checked the converted copy, especially when you lower the quality slider. Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore detail that was already lost; it only changes the container. For a website, test WebP in the browsers your visitors use, or keep a JPG fallback. For a favicon, start with a square image and use the dedicated Favicon Generator if you need multiple icon sizes and a manifest. The converter supports batch processing, so naming the files clearly before you begin will make the downloaded ZIP easier to organise.
Privacy and browser processing
All conversion work happens locally in your browser. The selected images are read from your device, drawn to a canvas and saved as a new file. They are not uploaded to ImageTool24, and no sign-up is needed. HEIC conversion also runs locally, which is useful for private photos.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert HEIC photos to JPG?
Yes. HEIC and HEIF input is supported in modern browsers. Select the photo, choose JPG as the output and download the converted copy.
Will PNG transparency be preserved?
PNG and WebP can keep transparent areas. JPG and BMP cannot, so the tool fills those areas with the background colour you select.
Is there a batch limit?
The interface does not impose a fixed number of files. Very large batches depend on your browser memory and device performance.
Does converting reduce quality?
Conversions to JPG, WebP and ICO can be lossy. Use a high quality value and keep a copy of the original when quality is important.
