Generate a complete favicon set from one square image

A favicon is the small icon shown in a browser tab, bookmark list, phone home screen and search result. Creating every required size by hand is tedious, so this generator takes one square image and produces the common website icons in a single ZIP. The set includes a favicon.ico, PNG icons, Apple touch icons, Android icons and a web app manifest. You can crop or fit the source image, choose a background colour and round the corners before generating the files.

How to make a favicon

  1. Select a square logo or image, preferably at least 512 × 512 pixels.
  2. Choose Crop to square to fill the frame, or Fit inside to keep the whole image with a background.
  3. Pick a background colour and adjust corner rounding if your logo needs it.
  4. Click Generate Icons and review the preview.
  5. Download the ZIP, then copy the files and manifest into your website's public folder.

What the icon set contains

  • favicon.ico: the traditional browser icon used by older and current browsers.
  • PNG icons: crisp icons for modern browsers and bookmarks.
  • Apple touch icon: the image used when a site is added to an iPhone or iPad home screen.
  • Android icons: sizes for home-screen shortcuts and installable web apps.
  • Web app manifest: a ready file that tells browsers which icons and colours to use.

Favicon design tips

Keep the design simple because a favicon is often displayed at 16 × 16 or 32 × 32 pixels. A single letter, a bold shape or a high-contrast mark usually works better than detailed text. Leave a little breathing room around the logo so it does not touch the edges of the tab. Test the icon on both light and dark browser themes. After uploading, clear the browser cache or open the site in a private window to see the new icon; browsers can keep an old favicon for a while. The Image Converter can also create a single ICO file when you do not need the full set.

Privacy and local generation

Your source image is processed in the browser. ImageTool24 does not upload it, and the generated files are created locally. This is convenient for a logo that has not been published yet.

Frequently asked questions

What size should the source image be?

A square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels gives the best results, especially for the larger Android and Apple icons.

Where do I put the generated files?

Place the icons and manifest in your website's public root or the folder referenced by your HTML. Add the appropriate link tags to the page head.

Why is my old favicon still showing?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Clear the cache, test in a private window, or wait for the cache to expire.

Is my logo uploaded?

No. The icons are generated in your browser and the source image stays on your device.
