Create a passport-size photo for forms and applications

A passport photo has to meet a precise size, background and framing requirement. This tool brings the common presets together and lets you adjust the photo before downloading. You can choose India/UK/EU 35 × 45 mm, USA 2 × 2 inch, Canada 50 × 70 mm, China 33 × 48 mm, Australia, PAN card, square or custom dimensions. Set the DPI, zoom and position the face, replace the background if needed, and export a JPG or PNG. You can also create an A4 print sheet with multiple copies for printing at home or a photo shop.

How to make a passport-size photo

  1. Select a clear, front-facing photo with a plain background.
  2. Choose the photo size required by the form or country.
  3. Select the DPI. 300 DPI is a safe choice for printing and most official uploads.
  4. Adjust zoom and position so the head is centred and there is enough space above it.
  5. Pick a background colour, or remove the original background when it is uneven.
  6. Enter an optional KB target, choose JPG or PNG, then download the photo or the A4 print sheet.

Which size should you choose?

  • India, UK and many EU forms: 35 × 45 mm is a common starting point, but always read the current instructions.
  • USA: 2 × 2 inch with a plain white background is typical for passport and visa photos.
  • Canada: 50 × 70 mm is used for some immigration and passport requirements.
  • PAN card and other Indian forms: 25 × 35 mm is a common small-photo size.

Tips for an acceptable photo

Use a recent photo with a neutral expression, both eyes open and the full face visible. Avoid heavy shadows, filters, hats and patterned backgrounds unless the authority explicitly allows them. Keep the head roughly centred and leave some space above the hair. The exact head height, background shade and print quality rules differ by country and document type, so check the official instructions before submitting. If a portal has a maximum KB limit, set a target and then verify the downloaded file. The A4 sheet is convenient for printing, but cut lines and paper size can vary, so use a print preview first.

Privacy and local processing

Your photo is cropped, resized and exported in your browser. It is not uploaded to ImageTool24, and no account is required. This is especially useful for identity photos that you would rather not send to an unknown website.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove the original background?

Yes. Enable background removal and adjust the sensitivity when the original background is fairly plain. For complex scenes, use the dedicated Remove Background tool first.

What DPI should I use?

300 DPI is recommended for print and most official uploads. Use 600 DPI only if the form specifically asks for it, because the file will be larger.

Can I print several copies on one page?

Yes. Use the A4 print sheet option to place multiple copies on a single sheet, then print at 100% scale without fit-to-page scaling.

Will this guarantee acceptance?

No. Requirements vary by authority. Use the tool to prepare the image, but always check the latest official size, background and quality rules before submitting.
