Crop an image to the exact shape and ratio you need

A good crop removes distractions, puts the subject in the right place and prepares a photo for a specific form or screen. This browser-based cropper gives you a draggable selection box, common aspect ratios, circle and rounded-corner shapes, and manual output dimensions. You can crop a portrait for a passport photo, make a square profile picture, prepare a wide image for a website banner or cut a clean circle for a logo. The original file is not changed, so you can experiment and download only the result you like.

How to crop an image online

  1. Select an image or drag it into the drop zone.
  2. Drag the crop box over the area you want to keep. Drag a corner or edge to resize the box.
  3. Choose an aspect ratio such as 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or the 35 × 45 mm passport ratio, or leave it on Free.
  4. Select Rectangle, Circle or Rounded corners. For rounded corners, adjust the radius slider.
  5. Set the output width and height if the destination has exact requirements, choose JPG, PNG or WebP, then click Crop Image and download the result.

Useful crop sizes and shapes

  • Square profile photos: use 1:1 for social media avatars, marketplace profiles and team pages.
  • Passport and visa photos: use the 35 × 45 mm ratio, then confirm the exact pixel and DPI requirements of the authority.
  • Website banners: 16:9 suits many hero images and video thumbnails, while 4:3 is common for older displays and prints.
  • Logos and badges: choose a circle or rounded rectangle and export PNG if you need transparency.

Tips for a better crop

Leave a little space around the subject instead of cropping tightly against the head or edges. For portraits, keep the eyes near the upper third of the frame and avoid cutting through joints or hands. If the destination has a maximum file size, crop first and then use the Compress Image tool. PNG is the safest choice for transparent rounded corners; JPG will fill the outside area with a solid colour. Check the preview before downloading, because a very small crop will look soft when enlarged.

Privacy and local processing

The crop box, preview and final image are generated in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded to a server, and you do not need an account. Only the cropped file you download leaves the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Can I crop an image into a circle?

Yes. Select the Circle shape, adjust the crop box and export a PNG if you need the area outside the circle to stay transparent.

Can I make a passport-size crop?

The 35 × 45 mm ratio is available for common passport and visa photos. For full print layout and background replacement, use the dedicated Passport Size Photo tool.

Does cropping reduce quality?

Cropping keeps the pixels inside the selected area but removes the rest. If you enlarge a small crop, it can look less sharp, so start with the highest-resolution original you have.

What format should I choose?

Use JPG for ordinary photos, PNG for transparency or sharp graphics, and WebP for a smaller web image that modern browsers can display.
