Split one image into equal tiles

A single image can become a grid for an Instagram profile, a printable puzzle, a classroom activity or a set of smaller web assets. This splitter divides a picture into the number of columns and rows you choose, then lets you download each tile or the complete set as a ZIP. You can export JPG, PNG or WebP and control the quality of lossy formats. The image is processed in your browser, so the original stays private.

How to split an image

  1. Select an image or drag it into the drop zone.
  2. Set the number of columns and rows. A 3 × 3 grid creates nine tiles.
  3. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP and adjust quality if needed.
  4. Click Split Image and review the tile previews.
  5. Download individual tiles or use Download All (ZIP).

Popular ways to use a split image

  • Instagram grid: split a wide picture into square posts that form one image across a profile.
  • Puzzles: print tiles and cut them out for a simple matching or sequencing activity.
  • Printing: divide a large poster into sections that fit on ordinary paper.
  • Web design: create separate image pieces for a layout or animation.

Tips for clean tiles

Choose dimensions that divide evenly by the number of columns and rows when possible; otherwise the last row or column may have a slightly different pixel width. For an Instagram grid, use a square source image and a 3 × 3 split, then post the tiles in reverse order if your profile displays newest first. Keep the original file so you can re-split at a different size. PNG is safer for graphics with sharp lines, while JPG is usually smaller for photos. If you want to combine images instead of dividing one, try the Collage Maker.

Privacy and browser processing

All cropping and export work happens locally. ImageTool24 does not upload the image, and the tiles are generated on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split an image into more than nine tiles?

Yes. Increase the columns and rows. Very large grids create many files and may take longer to package as a ZIP.

Are the tiles the same size?

They are equal where the dimensions divide evenly. If not, the final row or column may be one pixel different.

Can I download one tile only?

Yes. Download individual tiles from the result list, or save the entire set as a ZIP.

Is the image uploaded?

No. The split runs in your browser and the image stays on your device.
